The importance of taking some self-care time

The second week of confinement is over, the third week is starting and, let’s face it, it’s getting tough. There are better days than others, some the mood is positive, and some we feel down. This is perfectly normal, hence the importance of taking breaks. Moments of (real) relaxation where, for a moment, you take the time to think and take care of yourself (without the kids).

After realizing the importance of taking care of ourselves and needing this “me time”, that we imagined the #selfcareMS campaign.

For those who haven’t seen it on Instagram, the process is simple:

  1. I take some time to relax, a moment all to myself.
  2. I snap a picture or a video and tag #selfcareMS and @motherstories on a post or an Instagram story.
  3. I nominate three friends who would need it…

Here are, to date, a few relaxation ideas from our mothers:

  • A yoga session
  • A bath
  • A walk with your dog
  • A coffee in the sun on the terrace or in the garden
  • A meditation
  • A good book
  • A glass of wine
  • A beauty mask
  • A blow-dry
  • (…)

To make this happen, plan and set a time slot in the week with your partner where he or she will take care of the children, housework, homework. It’s important that it’s a time just for you, without having to worry about the rest.

If you can’t make it work this way, take this time during the kid’s nap. If they are old enough, explain to them that you need 20min, 30min, 1h to rest and set them comfortably on a sofa with a story or in front of a movie. Don’t worry, it’s ok, don’t feel guilty, taking this time for yourself will give you more energy to take care of them after your #selfcareMS moment.

You got it, our message this week is: THINK ABOUT YOU because no one else will do it for you. The time you take doesn’t matter… A 10-minute meditation can be enough to recharge your batteries.

We are in this together. Take care.
