Why didn't you want to breastfeed?

I didn't feel like breastfeeding for several reasons. The first reason was that the idea of being the only person who could feed my child for the first few weeks made me anxious. I'm a pretty independent person and I knew that I would need to take a day for myself from the first month (which I did). Knowing that my partner could take over the first few nights also reassured me. When it was his turn to bottle-feed, I was able to sleep a deeper sleep knowing that he was taking care of everything.

The second reason was that I wanted to get my body back and not share it with my child. I loved being pregnant but after giving birth I felt the need to regain control of my body.

The third reason was that I needed to know how much my child was taking. With the bottle, I was sure, more relaxed and serene.

How did you experience the gaze of others?

Most were surprised at my choice (maybe because profesionnally I work with babies). Others would naturally asked me how my breastfeeding was going. Despite my answer, I received no criticism.

What advice would you give to moms who don't want to breastfeed or who hesitate?

Listen to yourself. Do as you feel. A mom who is comfortable with her choices is a fulfilled and happy mom, so the baby is bound to do well. The question of the quality of breast milk compared to that of artificial milk often makes future mothers who do not wish to breastfeed feel guilty. In my opinion, the mother's well-being is very important.
