How to do a Home Detox Marie Kondo style with your family?

Deconfinement is on its way. There are three key dates: April 27, May 11 and June 8. It is still unclear to what is going to happen and how but in any case, we have to start mentally conditioning ourselves for the after Covid-19. We don’t know about you, but we’re starting to get used to being at home. We’re a bit ashamed to admit it, but we would almost like the confinement to last a little longer. We’re joking, or not, we don’t know, we don’t know anymore, we’re not sure, we are a little lost (laughs)! Anyway, there’s still a bit of time to do all those things we said we would do and still haven’t done, like that famous Home Detox. Eliette and Marieke, founders of Clarity explain all there is to know on the subject.

In the video below, discover the (virtual) meeting between Natalie and Marieke, specialist of the Marie Kondo Method and co-founder, with her twin sister Eliette, of Clarity Home Detox. In this time of confinement, they launched a special guide for Parents to experience the Art of Tidying Up as a FAMILY! Yes, yes, you’ve read it right. But beware, the first step is to do it yourself first.

If this is already the case, then GO! Tools, tips and tricks and practical exercises will be found in this 28-page guide (+ 11 appendices). Step by step, little by little, you are putting together new long term routines with your family.

Here are the 6 questions we asked Marieke in the Interview:

  1. What is a Home Detox?
  2. Where do you start?
  3. How do you do a Home Detox with young children?
  4. How do we sort & organize our children’s toys?
  5. Marieke, can you summarize in 3 points how to effectively do a Home Detox with our children?
  6. Where can we find your Special Parents Guide?

Excess deprives children of free time and the ability to explore their world in depth. Simplify, simplify, simplify and you will create a space in their lives for them to evolve. Make room for them to bloom slowly.

The key takeaways:

  • Be the change you want to see in others.
  • Start with yourself before you start sorting through your children’s stuff.
  • When the children are small (between 0 and 3 years old) sort their things, keeping the ones that make you feel good. It is important that parents feel comfortable in their child’s room.
  • For efficient sorting, sort things by categories and sub-categories.
  • Once the sorting is complete, what to do with the children’s belongings:
